Jane Adams, former leader in women's ministries in Georiga, died Jan. 28. She was 67. Adams taught Sunday School at Marie Baptist Church in Dublin. In her life she served as Sunday School Conference leader for the Georgia Baptist Convention, divisional vice-president of the Woman's Missionary Union of Georgia and president of the Georgia Baptist Associational Missionary Spouses Fellowship. Adams is survived by her husband of 48 years, J.L. Adams of Dublin; daughters Nora J. Adams of Claxton, Susan A. Lott of Claxton and Rebekah A. Yawn of Vidalia; son Lewey Adams III of Claxton; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
John Spivey, retired pastor of several Georgia Baptist churches, died Jan. 30 of cancer. He was 65. A native of Thomaston, Spivey attained degrees from Robert E. Lee Institute in Thomaston, Mercer University and Southern Seminary. During his 44-year ministry, he pastored churches in Swainsboro, Waycross, Port Wentworth and Omega. In addition he served as associate director for education extension for the Georgia Baptist Convention. Spivey is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jean Spivey of Beaufort, S.C.; his son, Eric Spivey of Beaufort; daughter Amy Spivey of Seattle, Wash. and two granddaughters.
John Temoshchuk, longtime Georgia pastor, died Jan. 27 in Yulee, Fla. He was 76. Born of parents with Ukrainian heritage, Temoshchuk served as pastor at churches in Germany, Florida, Kentucky and Georgia for nearly 40 years. During that time he pastored College Avenue Baptist Church in Douglas, First Baptist Church in Blackshear and First Baptist Church in Screven. Temoshchuk served as moderator and vice-moderator of Piedmont Okefenokee Association and as president of the Blackshear Ministerial Association. He was also a trustee for Baptist Village. Following his retirement in 1990, Temoshchuk served as interim pastor at First Baptist Jesup, First Baptist St. George, and First Baptist Woodbine. He is survived by his wife, Madelyne; daughter, Dawn Temoshchuk of Orlando, Fla.; and son, Jon Michael Temoshchuk of Jacksonville, Fla. |
