Ministerial Moves

Robert Barrett retired as pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Moultrie on Dec. 31 after serving 32 years. The church honored Barrett and his wife, Lottis, with a reception and love offering. Andy Cashwell is serving as interim.

 

Craig Brogdon resigned as minister of music at First Baptist Elberton effective Feb. 13.

 

New Bethel Baptist Church called Franklin Brown as pastor on Jan. 9. Franklin was a member at Shellman Baptist Church before coming to the church. He is joined by his wife, Deloria.

 

John Burnett, discipleship and family ministries consultant with the Georgia Baptist Convention, accepted a call as interim youth minister at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Snellville and began serving on Jan. 16.

 

Tony Byrd will begin serving as pastor at Zebulon Baptist Church in Toccoa on March 6. Byrd comes to the church from Living Hope Church in Hoover, Ala. He is joined by his wife, Lori, and their three sons, Matt, Ben, and Will.

 

John W. Carlton was called as pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Blackshear on Nov. 28. Although Pine Grove is his first pastorate, Carlton served as minister/interim minister of music at First Baptist Church Jesup, First Baptist Church Ludowici, Central Baptist Church in Waycross, Glyndale Baptist Church in Brunswick, Glover Baptist Church in Norcross, Shurlington Baptist Church in Macon, and Zebulon Baptist Church in Eastman. He is currently enrolled in the Masters program at Luther Rice Seminary.

 

Keith Chandler, music and worship consultant with the Georgia Baptist Convention, accepted a call as interim music minister at First Baptist Church in Fairburn and began serving on Jan. 9.

 

Heritage Baptist Church in Douglasville called Cecil Clegg as senior pastor on Jan. 23.

 

Chris Davis resigned as pastor of Second Baptist Church in LaGrange in December.

 

Steve Gibson resigned as pastor of Fortsonia Baptist Church in Elberton in January to accept the pastorate at West End Baptist Church in Athens.

 

Shiloh Baptist Church in LaFayette called Jeff Greer as interim worship leader beginning Jan. 12. Boo Acres is pastor.

 

Ken Haag accepted a call as transitional pastor at Towaliga Baptist Church in Kimbell Baptist Association and began Jan. 30. He comes to the church from serving as interim pastor at First Baptist Church in Jackson.

 

Gary Hulsey resigned as pastor at Rice Creek Baptist Church in Canon.

 

Steve Parr, specialist with Sunday School/Open Group Ministries with the Georgia Baptist Convention, accepted a call as interim pastor at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Snellville and began serving on Oct. 31, 2004.

 

Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville called Ryan Raymond as interim youth minister on Nov. 28. He is joined by his wife, Jennifer, and their two daughters, Abigail and Hannah.

 

Roddy Turner began serving as interim pastor at Zebulon Baptist Church in Toccoa in January. He will serve the church through the end of February.

 

Jason Wade accepted a call as minister to youth and students at First Baptist Church in Covington on Oct. 25. He comes to the church from First Baptist Church in Gray and is joined by his wife, April.

 

First Baptist Church in Americus called Robert L. Whitmire as senior pastor on Jan. 30. Whitmire is expected to begin serving March 6. He comes to the church from First Baptist Church Lithia Springs, where he served as senior pastor for twenty-five years, and is joined by his wife, Roxann.
