First Person: Precious in His Sight

As a child I loved to sing, "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight..." Through loving parents and a caring church family, I learned early in life that children are indeed precious in God's sight.

Unfortunately, today children are among the most vulnerable and violated in our culture. Rarely a week passes that we do not learn about another tragedy involving a child. In the midst of these sad realities, we can be thankful that Georgia Baptists are providing a place of safety and shelter to wounded children.

The Georgia Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries, Inc. (GBCHFM) has been serving hurting children and broken families since 1872. Not only is it one of the oldest and largest child care agencies in our state, it is perhaps the most innovative and comprehensive in its approach to ministry.

Last year the GBCHFM served 723 children through residential care, emergency care, community group homes, maternity care, a drug and alcohol treatment center and a camp for the disabled. In addition, this ministry assisted the Department of Justice in the placement of unaccompanied minors who came to the United States without papers, money or family.

I am so grateful for a ministry that truly sees children as precious in God's sight and seeks to bring hope and healing in the name of Jesus Christ. Will you join me this year in giving sacrificially to support this indispensable ministry?
