Don't teach cheap grace

I appreciate the article "College Class on U2 Explores Religious Influence of a Rock Band." It is good to bring issues like this to the forefront.

Here's what scares me though. It is a watered down version of the life Christ wants us to lead. Listening to rock groups that focus more on their personality than the exalting of God is just another way to straddle the fence.

I know I sound like the "Old Days" where rock is from the devil. But that is not what I am saying. Kids are listening and being mentored by pop culture Christians. They want to be like what they see. Be able to worship God and cuss and do a little drinking, read the Bible, etc.

Groups such as U2 and movies such as The Matrix are not the Christian worldview that we need to teach our kids. Christianity is not an easy life, just a joyful one. How can we teach our kids to be salt and light, when they look and act like unbelievers?

When Apostle Paul said, "to be all things to all people," he wasn't talking about giving up a holy life and living like heathens.

Promoting people and causes such as Mark Mulder and what they stand for is a crime. It is promoting what Deitrich Bonhoeffer called, " cheap grace."
