Remembering Camp Pinnacle

When I was growing up in Plains Baptist Church, several of our RA's would come to Camp Pinnacle for a week of camp back in the mid 50's. The picture that was in the Index March 17 issue of the cabins looks exactly like the one we stayed in.

They were all on a ridge and you had to go down to the road and cross over to the lake. At the lake we could swim and even had diving contest from the high dive which was located on the platform in the lake.

I remember the counselor we had for at least two years, "Danny Strain" was his name and he left a tremendous impression on me. What a wonderful time and experience we had as young boys at camp studying the Bible and trying to do everything well so we could get our badge at the end of the week.

The good meals and the great times will never be forgotten. From the time we crossed the lake till we left to go home our week was filled with exciting times and wonderful experiences.

I was also fortunate to be one of the first campers to go to Camp Glynn. It was a lot different than Camp Pinnacle but we had a great time there too.

I just wanted to let you know how much Camp Pinnacle meant to me and a lot of other boys in the 1950's. It was such a feeling of quiet and closeness to God and a rich and personal experience for me in my Christian life.

I'm so excited about all the improvements which are being made. I hope in the very near future to return to Camp Pinnacle.

Editor's note: Royal Ambassadors and Girls in Action were both under the WMU organizational structure until 1956, when RA work was transferred to the Georgia Baptist Convention and administered by the Brotherhood.
