Pastor clarifies comments

I would like to clarify my comments as quoted in the March 31 issue of the Index, page 3 article describing the "Younger Leaders" conference held at North Metro First Baptist Church.

The way the quote reads it sounds more like a condemnation rather than an evaluation. It certainly was not meant to be a condemnation and certainly was not so vaguely stated that the SBC validate any and every approach to ministry regardless of how it fits into a correct doctrine of ecclesiology. I certainly do not want to be accused wanting validation of something that is unscriptural. It seems I was "loosely" quoted, but it must have gotten attention because I was one of the last people to stand and speak after about an hour and a half of dialogue.

We must stay innovative without mimicking or looking like the world. The church should not attempt to look like the world but certainly must maintain a contemporary approach to the contemporary man. I don't believe that a 19th century church can do the work of God's kingdom in the new millenium. I am in agreement with men like Alvin Reid who authored Radically Unchurched that the Church adapt its methods but never compromise the message.

I agee with the many other men in this denomination that the SBC will be revived through the local church when the local church once again impacts its community with Christ.

May I add that this could happen with or without younger leaders, but many of these young men, like myself, have answered a call to reach a new millenium. I believe most are willing to do whatever it takes to do the Kingdom's work and have responded to His commission with great humility and passion. It may just be the shot of adrenaline that will revive the local church and the SBC, making them effective in this brave new world.
