After serving six years as vice president for Enrollment Services at Brewton-Parker College, John Waters has accepted the call as pastor of First Baptist Church Statesboro. During his tenure at the college, Waters was integral in the school's stability, growth, and operations. As the denominational liaison to Georgia Baptist churches, Waters helped to strengthen the relationship to Baptist pastors and instill confidence in the school's mission.

Waters is joined by his wife, Cynthia, and their two daughters, Trisha and Bethany. He will assume the full-time position June 1.

After earning his Bachelor of Ministry degree from Brewton-Parker College, Waters earned a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Seminary in New Orleans, La.

He distinguished himself academically in college by graduating summa cum laude and with the highest grade point average in the graduating class.

His course work in seminary covered topics such as Biblical studies, church administration, preaching, pastoral care, and leadership.

Prior to his service at Brewton-Parker College, Waters served as pastor of five churches in Georgia, Texas, and South Carolina. He has been the interim pastor at six Georgia congregations during his service at the college.

Waters has served on the Georgia Baptist Executive Committee, Cooperative Program Budget Committee, Tellers Committee, Order of Business Committee, and the Executive Work Team for CP Missions.
