Top finishers to compete in national competition

Winners of the 2005 Georgia Baptist State Youth Bible Drill and Speakers Tournament were announced at the conclusion of the event held May 14 at the GBC Conference Center in Norman Park.

Co-winners in the Bible drill were Kayla Ray, 13, a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Carnesville and Ethan Bloodworth, 12, a member of Northridge Baptist Church in Macon. Olivia Neeley, 17, a member of Harp's Crossing Baptist Church in Fayetteville won the speakers tournament.

Runner up in the Bible drill was Kaylyn Wilson, 14, a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Flowery Branch. Micah North, 17 and a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta, was the runner up in the speakers tournament.

Neeley, Ray and Bloodworth will travel to Orlando, Fla. to represent Georgia in the national Bible Drill and Speakers Tournament. The event will be held June 10 at First Baptist Church in Orlando.

As winner of the speakers tournament, Neeley receives a scholarship of $4,000 applicable to either Brewton Parker College or Truett-McConnell College.

The scholarship lasts throughout four years if the winner decides to enroll at either school.

The Jenny Rogers Memorial Scholarship Fund, given to the winner of the speakers tournament each year, is named in honor of Jenny Rogers, a nursing student who was murdered in 1992.

Rogers was also the daughter of Dennis and Judy Rogers. Dennis Rogers serves as specialist for Discipleship and Family Ministries, which sponsors the Bible drill and speakers tournament.
