Watters chosen to become church-minister relations specialist for Georgia Baptists

Danny Watters, who has served as pastor of Beulah Baptist Church in Douglasville for almost 22 years, will assume duties as specialist for the Church/Minister Relations Department of the Georgia Baptist Convention in June. Watters will fill the position vacated by Leonard Dupree, who retired last December.

The Beulah pastor has been vitally involved in denomination life for years and currently serves as a trustee for Guidestone Financial Resources, formerly the SBC Annuity Board. He has also served as the chairman of the Order of Business Committee for the SBC. In Georgia Baptist life Watters has served in a myriad of ways, including as chairman of the Executive Committee and chairman of the Administration Committee.

Many contend that Watters is ideally suited for the church-minister relations position because of his love for pastors and long history of ministering to God-called men. The Douglasville pastor will not only build upon the rich tradition of this strategic ministry, but will be able to bring a fresh vision to this ministry role to enrich and assist both the churches of our convention and those whom God has called to serve the church in vocational ministry.

Becky Watters, wife of the new GBC specialist, has not only been intricately involved in the life of Beulah Baptist Church, but has also effectively served Georgia Baptists as a member of the board of directors of The Christian Index.

J. Robert White, executive director of the Georgia Baptist Convention states, "Through Danny's long and faithful ministry in Georgia he has been able to build an incredible system of bridges as he has related to pastors prior to coming to this position."

White continued, "Danny has already been recognized as a pastoral leader who offers great wisdom and outstanding counsel to other pastors. He has a genuine heart for ministering to the needs of pastors and their families. I see Danny Watters as a natural fit for this position.

"It is also a blessing to know that Danny's wife, Becky, has demonstrated outstanding faithfulness to the church, to her husband's ministry and to her own place of service in the life of the church, the convention and the community." White added.

The new convention specialist attended West Georgia College, West Georgia Bible Institute and graduated from New Orleans Seminary in 1982.

Prior to his pastorate in Douglasville, Watters served as pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Tallapoosa and Spring Baptist Church in Chatsworth.

The Watters have three grown children: Chad (married to Kim), and twins Scarlett Rackley (married to Tim) and Shonna Privette (married to Kyle) and two grandchildren.

The new Georgia Baptist Convention employee will begin his duties on June 13.
