More work to do

I was excited to see the wonderful increases from the Annual Church Profile on the front page of the May 12th issue of the Index. On almost every measure the statistics are up!

In the midst of my celebration a sobering thought came to my mind. I also recently read that the population of Georgia is expanding rapidly. I don't remember the exact statistics, but it stuck in my mind that the growth rate was in the ten to twenty percent range. If our SBC churches do not grow at least as fast as the population growth of the state, then we are actually losing ground. For example, If the state grows by 10% but our church membership grows by 2% then we are behind by 8%!

It's great that we have grown, but let's be realistic. We have a lot more work to do in order to make an impact on the rapidly growing population of our great state. Let's celebrate for the moment, then redouble our efforts to reach one more for Jesus!
