DeWitt Cox was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters degree by Luther Rice College and Seminary at the 2005 commencement held at First Baptist Church of Atlanta on May 13.
Cox, now retired, served Georgia Baptists throughout his career in a variety of capacities including: vice president of the Georgia Baptist Foundation, trustee of Baptist Village Retirement Communities, survey specialist of the Home Mission Board (now North American Mission Board), vice president of the Atlanta Baptist Pastor's Conference, first vice president of the Georgia Baptist Convention, Endowment Committee member of the Annuity Board, and consultant to various institutions and organizations.
Cox and his wife, Edna, are members at North Metro First Baptist Church in Lawrenceville where their son, Frank Cox, is pastor.
