Georgians awarded at Southeastern service

 

WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Southeastern Seminary honored six Georgians May 19 as part of its chapel commissioning service. The awards denote academic excellence among recipients.

The Certificate in Women’s Studies was presented to Erin L. Hames, a native of Clarkesville.

Also awarded was Barbara Price, a native of Marietta where she is a member of Eastside Baptist Church. The certificate is designed to equip non-degree-seeking wives of seminary students or other interested women for ministry by providing an overview of a seminary education. Students complete a one-credit hour class and 10 additional units of study over a minimum of two academic years.

The Arthur F. and Olga M. Robinson Advanced Language Prize was awarded to Jared Allen Henson, a native of Blairsville and member of First Baptist Church.

The award goes to a master of divinity or theology student who has shown proficiency in the mastery of Biblical Hebrew and Greek. Studies must be on the advanced level with the satisfactory completion of two courses in each language beyond the elementary level.

The S.L. Stealey Church History Award was presented to Nathan Andrew Finn, a native of Waycross and member of Central Baptist Church. The award is named in honor of the first president of the seminary and presented to a student who submitted the best term paper in Church History during the current year.

The Charlton-Light Award for Excellence in Teacher Education was presented to Russell Walton Jackson, a member of First Baptist Church Canton. It is awarded to the most outstanding student in Teacher Education in English.

The Associate Excellence Award was presented to Gary Lamar Shugart, a native of Calhoun and member of Trinity Baptist Church. The award is presented to a graduating student in the Associate Class who has excelled in scholarship, leadership, spirituality and promise of ministry. The award is designated for the purchase of Bible commentaries or other theological books.
