"Baton" conveys truthBy Bill R. McCleskey, JacksonPublished July 21, 2005
I've just finished reading "Passing the Baton" in the June 23 issue of the Index. At my age, 57, I have mixed feelings about the coming changes that I read about. My home church recently called a new pastor who has incorporated a number of changes in the method of worship and also how the church operates. Some of these changes have prompted my wife and I to look for a new church home. As an example, we both like singing from the hymnal, not words projected upon a screen sung over and over again. I often wonder if our young folks will be able to recall the songs projected on a screen the way those of us who grew up with the hymnal know and love the old hymns. I believe that the article conveyed a lot of truth in that I believe it is correct that these young pastors are reaching many that are lost - that is what the church should be about. Even with all of the changes at my home church I believe the pastor is concerned about the lost and not just numbers. The content of his messages seems to me to be grounded in the Scriptures. I guess that's one reason there are so many churches in our country. Most everyone should be able to find a church to his/her liking while serving and worshiping our Lord and Savior. |
