Dear Georgia Baptists ...

Letters from victims

Published: September 29, 2005

The hospitality you people have shown to us has been wonderful. Just being alive and at this Baptist Assembly has been a great blessing from God. Thank you for the rescue and all the help.

Ronda M., Mississippi

We are so grateful for all the things that you have done for us. In life we cannot imagine something like this happening to us. We love you!!

Speaking for not only myself but for the people of Biloxi, we would not have known what to do or even where to live without your kindness and your love but most of all God. There are no words to express our thanks. Just remember, my wife and I will never forget you all!

Mr. and Mrs. Rei D., Biloxi

I can't put into words what an impression you have made on my family and I. We have been showered with love. Only God can make people have so much compassion and kindness to total strangers. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We love you all.

Thanks for everything you all have done for us. We will never forget Norman Park and all the Christian surroundings.

Veronica B., Fisher L., Marian S., Alvin C.

Jesus came to our rescue through your hearts of love, kindness, and goodwill toward your fellow man. We were in need and you all sent for us.

In my hour of need, to be homeless, all my clothing and food destroyed, I was brought to an emergency shelter and slept on one blanket in the hallway of a junior high school for three days. Then I was transported to the Baptist Convention Center in Norman Park. I was given a room with one roommate, fed three delicious meals a day, and had all of my needs attended to. How do you put the words of appreciation into print?

Roland G.

We wish to thank all the churches of Georgia for their kindness during out time of need. Special thanks also goes out to Pastor Matt [Stacey of Antioch Baptist Church in Pavo] for all his time and patience while helping the many families during their stay here.

I am deeply appreciative for your going beyond any expectations that I had. A beautiful setting with beautiful people helping us in so many ways.

Jack O.

God has allowed you and others all over the country to open your heart and soul in a very special way. Words would not be enough to express our love and gratitude of how you accepted us. Ya'll have touched and changed our lives in such a very special way.

Clifford A.

What a wonderful feeling it is to have so many people care about us. From the depths of destruction you came and saved us. You saved us from the reality of no homes, or the help of running water and running sewage, or electricity or gas, or gasoline or food, and the lack of communication to solve our problems. Every one of you in your own special way communicated to us hope, love, and caring. You brought comfort, civility, and kindness. You brought us the ways of God and dear Jesus.
