For 24 years students have headed for Macon the week after Christmas to hear well-known speakers and award-winning bands during the GBC Youth Evangelism Conference. This year speakers Voddie Baucham and Thomas Young brought hard-hitting messages about living the Christian life. Between sermons, fans listened to the multiple-Dove award-winning band Casting Crowns, led by Georgia youth pastor Mark Hall, as well as Dove Award winner for “Male Vocalist of the Year” Jeremy Camp. Grammy award winner Rebecca St. James spoke to a girls-only session and Todd Fields and the band Elsewhere also led sessions. “The Youth Evangelism Conference is a very powerful experience,” said Doug Couch, GBC youth ministry specialist. “The students generate enough energy to change the world for Christ.” The Youth Evangelism Conference is an annual event sponsored by Georgia Baptist Youth Ministries. The three-day event includes two back-to-back sessions. There is also a joint event between the two sessions with separate girls and boys events for all YEC attendees. While YEC is funded through registration fees, gifts to the Cooperative Program allow the GBC youth ministries staff to provide year-round events and training for youth and youth workers.
