Georgia Mountain Resort Ministries reaches out to tourists, residents, and employees

Georgia Mountain Resort Ministries is a ministry program sponsored by three associations: White County, Notla River, and Hiawassee. Located in the heart of the North Georgia mountains, this ministry exists to offer Christian-based family services to tourists who visit the area, as well as residents and employees of the resort areas.

Michael and Natalie Flake, with daughter Jorjann, are missionary associates who direct Georgia Mountain Resort Ministries in Helen.

Led by Georgia missionary Michael Flake, the ministry uses local and visiting volunteers to run a myriad of programs.

“We do everything from holding children’s day camps in the RV campgrounds to an Appalachian Trail ministry to state park worship services to cleaning the river,” Flake said.

Flake organizes volunteers – individuals and groups – to work at a variety of ministries.

“Right now we’re looking for an RV that we can park in a campground. We’d love for someone to donate an RV to the ministry so we can use it as a base for ministry. We hold day camps all summer in several parks and this would be a way of having a continuing presence. We’d even be able to house summer missionaries in one,” he said.

Does your missions group need a project this spring? Flake has a needs list that includes everything from crayons to clown costumes. Is your church looking for a place to serve? The ministry needs people to do everything from puppets to prayer walking.

“Volunteers are really what makes this ministry happen,” he said.
