Charles Samuel Callahan, 73, of Kennesaw, died Jan. 19 of heart problems at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

Callahan was pastor of congregations in Decatur, Marietta, Brookhaven, White, as well as Pensacola, Fla. He was founding pastor in 1999 of Beulah Land Baptist Church in Acworth.

In 1991 he earned his doctorate from Bethany Theological Seminary. Callahan hosted 26 trips to the Holy Land through his company, Beulah Land Tours. This past October, he preached in First Baptist Church of Bethlehem.

Callahan is survived by his wife, Barbara Callahan; two sons, Tim Callahan of Kennesaw and Sammy Callahan of Marietta; two sisters, Margaret Dobson and Emily Wheeler, both of Jasper; and four grandchildren.

Retired pastor Cecil Duane “Ted” McCollum, 70, of Carrollton, died Jan. 14.

A native of Polk County, he was a graduate of North Greenville Junior College, Mercer University, and Southeastern Seminary. He was the former pastor of Concord Baptist Church, Dahlonega Baptist Church, Genetian Baptist Church in Columbus, First Baptist Church of Baxley, and Midway Macedonia Baptist Church of Carrollton. In 1980 McCollum became the director of missions for Carrollton Baptist Association before retiring in 1998.

After moving to Carrollton, he became a founding board member of the Emergency Shelter for Battered Women and established and directed the transient ministry for Carroll County Association of Churches. He was also instrumental in founding the Carroll County soup kitchen as well as the Interfaith Ministry in Carroll County.

McCollum was also past president of the Ministerial Alliance and for the past 22 years was a member of First Baptist Church of Carrollton, where he served as church historian and leader of the Mission Evangelism Team.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth McCollum; son David McCollum, Augusta; daughter Kay Rigby, Powder Springs; 2 grandchildren; and a brother, Dan McCollum of Toccoa.
