Christian bookstore won’t stock latest Left Behind book

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (RNS) Regent College Bookstore, one of the largest Christian bookstores in Canada, won’t be selling the 12th installment in the phenomenally popular Left Behind series, Glorious Appearing, saying it promotes a dangerous worldview that exacerbates global tensions.

“The book is very American-centric,” said spokesman Ian Panth, whose Christian bookstore is a nonprofit arm of Regent College, on the University of British Columbia campus. “It suggests the United States is successful because it has supported the state of Israel.”

The majority of faculty at the evangelical Christian graduate school, Panth said, are appalled by the bad writing and bad theology in the apocalyptic series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins – which has sold more than 40 million copies and been translated into 34 languages.
