The Open Door

So many good things are happening in the life of the Georgia Baptist Convention that it is impossible in the course of a column, even one that is written every two weeks, to share everything that is happening and recount the many glorious ways that God is at work. I do want to take the opportunity of this column on this occasion, however, to tell you about the incredible ministry of the Sons of Jubal recently completed in Moldova.

As you know, we have an international mission partnership with the country of Moldova. Over a year ago, Jon Duncan, specialist for Music and Worship Ministries Department of the Georgia Baptist Convention, announced plans to take the Sons of Jubal on a singing tour of Moldova. Their plan would include more than concerts, however, for they would be planting three new churches in Moldova. You may recall that the Baptists of Moldova indicated at the beginning of our mission partnership, the need to plant Baptist churches in 1,000 villages of Moldova which have no Baptist church or other evangelical ministry.

Recently the Sons of Jubal returned from their mission trip and Jon Duncan shared a marvelous report of what they experienced under the mighty hand of God’s leadership. You will be able to tell from Jon’s comments that the Sons of Jubal divided into three groups – A, B, and C in order to accomplish everything they desired to accomplish while in Moldova.

“Just a quick note to say, ‘thank you’ and ‘praise the Lord’ for the many blessings we experienced together in Moldova and Prague. I believe that God was truly honored through the proclamation ministry of the 70 plus Jubals that took part. Here is a brief report: On the day of our arrival, we started with a fellowship with our brothers, including the local missionaries, pastors, interpreters. On the next day, group C went to Cahul. We presented an evangelistic concert to 600 with over 40 praying to receive Christ. We then dedicated the new church in Cahul, made possible through the concert ministry of the Sons of Jubal.

Group C then took to the street to witness. Another 25 came to faith. While this was taking place, groups A and B were singing and leading training events for pastors and leaders in Orhei.

The building was full of people who were blessed, not only by the music, but also by the training they received from Dan Dockery, associational missionary of the Carrollton Baptist Association and John Bryan, ministry resource consultant in Augusta. On Sunday, group C presented music at the Baptist Church in Comart and then presented a concert for more than 500 people before returning home. Once again, several came to faith.

Group A on Sunday went to Balti, where they sang before a full house and participated in the Lord’s Supper. Group B sang in both services at Jesus the Savior Church in Chisinau. Several more came to the Lord. Group B then went to Balti where the two groups sang for at least 1,600 at Bethany Baptist. Once again, people prayed to receive Christ. People packed the church, fellowship hall and doorways to hear the men sing. They even opened the doors so people could hear from outside the church.

On Monday, group A went to Edineti for a new church dedication while group B presented a concert at the orphanage. John Bryan reported at least 20 conversions (Dr. John Bryan and Rev. Dan Dockery served as pastors for the mission tour).

Group C presented a concert at the seminary in Chisinau before heading to Balti for a major concert at the university. Once again, the room was filled with students. This was the first time the Gospel had been presented publicly at this university. All the groups then presented a concert at The Ark Baptist Church in Balti. Monday was indeed a hallmark day in ministry.

On Tuesday, the men received some much-needed rest before presenting a concert at the local orphanage. Several hundred children and teenagers were present. A simple message of salvation presented through the story of Zaccheus led to dozens of older children and young people turning to Jesus as their Savior. That night, we sang at Jesus the Savior Church in Chisinau. The room was filled with students. When the concert was over, 20 prayed to receive Christ.

Wednesday the men sang at the seminary. This seminary has 150 students from 20 different countries. Nearly half come from Muslim nations. Many of the students were converted from Islam. Most will return to their countries to evangelize their homelands. That night the men presented a concert in Hope Baptist Church in Chisinau where several prayed to receive Christ. All of this was going on while our medical team from First Baptist Church of Blairsville served hundreds of people in need of immunizations, personal counseling, and much more.

The next day we traveled to Prague where the ministry would take on a new light. Whereas the ministry in Moldova was geared more for evangelism and church starts, the focus turned more to encouragement in Prague. The first day was one of fellowship with the wonderful leaders of the Baptist Union of the Czech Republic. The next day was busy as we led three church music conferences and presented a major concert that night to 500 people.

That Sunday, we participated in two worship services (First Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church in Prague). We then hurried to St. Nicholas for a special concert in this remarkable Hussite church. I will never forget seeing two ladies on the third row weeping as we sang the song of the Lord. The final concert took place that afternoon as evangelicals from all over Prague came together for a time of praise and inspiration.

All in all, we sang for well over 10,000 people in 12 days. Although we will never know on this side of heaven how many came to Christ, we can be sure that well over 100 public decisions were made. Leadership training for pastors and worship leaders engaged over 500 people. The medical team served over 300 patients in two locations. In addition to this, three new churches were launched, as well as hundreds of Bibles purchased to be distributed later. We even had opportunity to buy several tons of coal for churches to use next winter. All of this was done through the strength and empowerment of the Holy Spirit for the glory of our wonderful Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. To God be the glory. Great things He has done!”

Well done, Jon Duncan and Sons of Jubal! We praise the Lord for your ministry and pray that God will bless you in a mighty way for your faithfulness.
