Grateful for Brewton-Parker

I was pleased to read the article concerning the centennial celebration at Brewton-Parker College. I am proud to be a 1977 graduate of BP, and to have been able to participate in alumni activities. This year, at the Alumni Recognition Service on April 24th, ninety-two College Choir alumni sang under the direction of Hiddie Stanley, BP’s retired Distinguished Professor of Music. We came from nearby Mount Vernon and Glenwood and from as far away as Atlanta; Nashville, TN; and Las Vegas. We left renewed and filled with joy.

Many of us are now in full-time and part-time pastoral and music leadership positions. Some are teachers, radio personalities and recording artists. Among us are those who completed their two or four-year degrees and started jobs and families while others hold advanced degrees and are in the professions.

Brewton-Parker College is one of the Convention’s brightest jewels, and is an educational resource like none other. I encourage our alumni and other Georgia Baptists to be generous in giving to BP, especially to the Music Division. A new generation of bright young people – white, black, Hispanic and Asian – are depending on us to provide scholarships and to support Brewton-Parker’s mission of developing minds in a Christian environment.

With our help, new BP graduates can be equipped with a solid education, armed with the faith and empowered by the Holy Spirit to reach others.
