Public schools are war zones

In reference to the editorial in the May 20 edition about pulling kids out of school, I believe that you have not been to schools a lot lately.

Schools, especially high schools, are war zones now, even in the kind of small town of Newnan. I have had two of my sons beat up for not doing anything. I not only pray that they learn, but they come back safe.

Now every school, middle and high, have a full fledged police officer in them. But more importantly, you say it is all how the parents raise the kids. I disagree. I have my kids for a less period of time than the school gets them. All that their mom and I teach them of Christian values gets bombarded when they get to school. Hollywood’s values are thrown at our kids 8 hours a day, five days a week. Their mom and I do all we can to just fight this with the little time we have.

You say we shouldn’t pull our kids out because we should be salt. These are kids – kids who are still trying to discover their identity. They are dealing with chemical changes and learning about themselves.

I believe your comments are, with all due respect, naive of how school is today. I am 41. When I went to school, it was nothing like it is now.

On the other hand, to pull our kids out would be great, but there is a problem – where would we send them? A lot of Christians cannot afford private school or are not qualified or have the time to home school.

T.C. Pickney has a great start on an idea, but it needs to be thought all the way through. Then I would be for it.
