One of the phenomenal ministry events of the past year was the film Facing The Giants written and produced through the ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. The film has grossed approximately ten million dollars and we are aware of some 800 professions of faith that have been made at screenings of Facing The Giants. Since Facing The Giants did not have the opportunity to get to more than 1,000 theaters, there are thousands of communities in America that never got the experience of seeing this fantastic Christian film.
Sherwood Baptist Church has helped to create a special program for churches to host their own movie night with churches and Christians from their community attending an event at the church’s facilities. I want to encourage you to check out the following web site, www.providentfilms.org. This site clearly lays out a plan for having a very fine outreach opportunity for your local church.
Just as Jesus used the power of stories to touch the hearts of people and inform them about His Kingdom, Facing The Giants is a modern-day parable on fear and faith communicated in a language that is understood by our current culture. This movie has defied the odds by playing to audiences in more than 800 theaters, earned place after place in national news casts, and gave rise to thousands of testimonies from the more than one million ticket buyers at the box office. As fine as the response has been, there are millions more who have yet to experience this remarkable film.
Soon the movie will be out in DVD form and everyone needs to understand and “play by” the rules. DVD movies that are purchased at retail stores are only licensed for home or personal viewing and carry an FBI warning. The movie industry is getting quite serious about enforcing copyright laws. In light of this reality, Provident Films has made special provisions with Sony Pictures to make a site license available to non-profit organizations like churches, schools, and other ministry leaders who have a vision for sharing the movie as a group event.
When you click on the site indicated above, you will be taken to a description of two Site License packages. One is a Standard Site License complete with all the promotional pieces for a price of $199 provided for churches with more than 100 members.
A second package titled the Huddle Site License has the basic promotional items and is for churches with less than 100 members, Christian schools, chaplains, and sports ministry partners with intended audiences of less than 100 people. This particular package is available for $99.
I want to encourage all our churches to pursue purchasing one of these packages and showing the film in a special event at your local church. This is an extremely reasonable offer and will provide remarkable ministry opportunity for your church.
To say the least, I have been greatly blessed by Facing The Giants. It is one of the finest Christian films that I have ever seen. I have viewed the film on several occasions and each time my heart and life were wonderfully impacted by the message. This is a film that your people deserve to have the opportunity to view.
I am particularly interested in seeing this film go into our communities where Facing The Giants may not have shown in a local theater. I urge you to give serious consideration to purchasing one of these packages and offering this ministry to your community through your local church. In the setting of your church, you can extend an evangelistic invitation for people to come to faith in Christ, and I believe that God will pour out a great blessing of souls for His Kingdom for those who participate in this ministry opportunity.
May God bless you as you consider this expansion of your church’s ministry, and may God bless Sherwood Baptist Church for its vision for communicating the gospel creatively in a language understood by our culture.
