Irvin Lanier Northcutt, former Georgia pastor and emeritus Southern Baptist missionary to Peru and Colombia, died June 7. He was 75. A native of Chapman, Ala., Northcutt was a graduate of Norman Park College and Mercer University. He went on get degrees from New Orleans Seminary, Stetson University, and the University of Florida. Northcutt served as pastor of Salem Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church in Tifton, Cross Keys Baptist in Macon and First Baptist Vidalia in addition to churches in Mississippi and Florida. In 1959, he and his wife, the former Mildred Meadows of Columbus, were appointed by the International Mission Board to serve as evangelists in Peru. Northcutt served as president of Peru Baptist Theological Seminary from 1974 to 1978. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Donald Northcutt of Sumterville, Fla., and David Northcutt of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a daughter, Cathy Roth of DeLand, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
James F. Wilkins died May 4 following a long illness. He was 76. A native of Marietta, Wilkins was a graduate of West Georgia College, Mercer University Extension School of Christian Education, and received an associate degree from the North Georgia Campus of New Orleans Seminary. After working with the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years, he served as pastor of Sutallee Church in White and The Gardens of Towne Lake Community Church in Woodstock. He also served as associate and interim pastor of Stonecrest Church in Woodstock. Wilkins is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Rick, of Dallas and Steve, of Cartesville; a granddaughter and three brothers, Bob Wilkins, of California; Harold Wilkins, of Buchanan and Herbert Wilkins, of Temple. |
