Barkley joins Index as production editor

Jamie "Scott" Barkley of Cartersville joined The Index as production editor on Jan. 2.

Barkley, 30, was born in Rome but grew up across the state line in Centre, Ala. For the past two-and-a-half years he has served as an English teacher at Woodland High School. Prior to that he and his wife, the former Amy Wills of Glencoe, Ala., served for two years as US/C-2 missionaries through the North American Mission Board to Cheyenne, Wyo.

Barkley is a 1998 graduate of Jacksonville (Ala.) State University and has written for The Alabama Baptist, the Gadsden Times, and The Christian Index.

As production editor he works with Design Editor Kelly Durham in the production of the state paper. He moves into a similar position vacated by Joe Westbury when he was promoted from associate editor to managing editor in August.

Barkley and his wife are parents of one daughter, Rylee Grace, who was born on Aug. 23, 2002. The couple are members of First Baptist Church in Cartersville. Barkley is a deacon and teaches a College & Career Sunday School class at the church.
