Where are we headed as a state?

Published: March 27, 2008

As this article is being prepared there are a few days left in this General Assembly session under the Gold Dome. I had great hopes that we would finally see a Human Life Amendment passed in our state allowing the people of Georgia to amend the Constitution that would recognize a baby developing in their mother’s womb to be seen as a person. I also had wished that the issue of having one more day of making booze available to the people of Georgia would not become a reality. Another issue that concerns me is the matter of the official language of our state; many of the citizens believe it should be English.

As these issues have been introduced at this point in the session with only a few days left, it looks like we will not have a vote on the Human Life Amendment, or declare English as our official language. I am apprehensive about the sales of beer and wine on Sunday. To allow this further encroachment into the lives of the God-fearing Christ followers of our state is further evidence that our state continues down the secular progressive lifestyle. This truth does not bode well for those of us who had wished for a different outcome.

A great research tool is found at www.legis.ga.gov where you can find your elected official, the bills and resolutions introduced, and where they are in the process. To know how your Senator or Representative voted on a matter go to this website and follow the number of the bill or resolution. When the General Assembly is in session it can also be viewed from this site.
