Georgia Baptists nominated to serve on committees at Indianapolis annual meeting

 

INDIANAPOLIS (BP) — Georgia Baptists were among nominees selected to serve on the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, three of the four denominational boards (International and North American Mission boards, LifeWay Christian Resources), Southeastern and Midwestern seminaries, and the Committee on Order of Business by the 2008 SBC Committee on Nominations.

Nominees will serve if elected by the messengers to the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention, June 10-11 in Indianapolis:

 

Executive Committee

Roy Scarborough, Jr., a member of Curtis Baptist Church in Augusta, has been nominated to serve a second term. Scarborough is president of Meybohm-Scarborough Insurance, LLC in Augusta.

 

International Mission Board

Roger L. Henderson, minister of missions/education at Warren Baptist Church in Augusta, will replace John N. Schaefer, a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta. Henderson’s term is set to expire in 2012.

 

North American Mission Board

Lester L. Cooper, Jr., director of missions for Atlanta Association of Southern Baptists, has been nominated to serve with term expiring in 2012. He will replace First Baptist Rincon pastor Bob Rogers.

Nominated for a second term as trustees are Tim Dowdy, pastor of Eagle’s Landing First Baptist in McDonough, and Ferrel Wiley, a layperson at Schomburg Road Baptist Church in Columbus.

 

LifeWay Christian Resources

Nominated for a second term is Terry Braswell, Sr., associational missionary for West Metro Association.

 

Southeastern Seminary

Stephen Batts, pastor of Life Point Church in Newnan, has been nominated to serve with term to expire in 2013.

 

Midwestern Seminary

Dan McDonald, a layperson at First Baptist Church in Woodstock, has been nominated to serve with term to expire in 2013.

 

Committee on Order of Business

Gearl Spicer, pastor of One Heart Church in Norcross, has been nominated to serve with term to expire in 2011.
