The Spring 2009 edition of the Baptist Mobile Health Ministry, Inc. newsletter, recently reported an unusually outstanding year of ministry in 2008. The year of ministry began at Glennville with the Tattnall-Evans Baptist Association ministry to the Hispanic population in their communities. The season ended, as in previous years, in November at El Shaddai in Roswell.

Throughout the year, the mobile health unit traveled 6,828 miles, providing 66 clinic days at 29 different sites. The numbers of persons who received care through this outstanding Georgia Baptist ministry are impressive:

3,428 – Persons receiving treatment

4,728 – Medical screening procedures

3,551 – Dental procedures performed

As ministry to physical needs was taking place, there was also ministry to spiritual needs. I rejoiced to learn the following report:

1,171 – Presentations of the Gospel

218 – Professions of faith

31 – Other Decisions

It would be impossible to conduct such an incredible ministry without the involvement of many volunteers who freely give of themselves and their time. The following will give you an idea of the number of people it takes to make such a ministry a success:

68 – Physicians

110 – Nurses

130 – Dentists

146 – Dental Assistants

52 – Hygienists

278 – Students

31 – Associational Missionaries

76 – Pastors

30 – Counselors

111 – Church Staff

731 – Lay Persons

The services provided by all of these wonderful volunteers was the equivalent of $51,928 in medical services and $362,118 in dental services for a grand total of $414,046. These ministries were rendered to persons throughout Georgia who could not afford to provide these services for themselves.

Thank you, Georgia Baptists, for caring for those who are hurting physically, financially, and spiritually. The Bible says that Jesus went about doing good. This is a ministry that very closely follows the model of ministry provided to us by the Lord.

This ministry is a joint venture of the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Baptist Medical/Dental Fellowship and has the following as its mission statement: “Our mission is to help provide caring health service and Christian witness to underserved persons of Georgia.”

Would you please join me in praying for this ministry? They are doing a great work for the Lord and would be so grateful for your prayer support. Also, if you have interest in serving through this ministry, please contact Diana Brown at (800) RING-GBC, Ext. 217 or (770) 936-5217.
