The Christian Index is exploring ways to control rising costs while seeking ways to protect the content that is unique to the publication. With those goals in mind, the newspaper is no longer able to provide free online access to its popular Sunday School lessons.
The decision was reached as an effort to provide content more fairly to its print readers whose subscriptions help cover the cost of producing the publication.
While The Index ministry is partially funded by the Georgia Baptist Convention, it must generate a substantial amount of revenue from other sources to cover all of its costs. Advertising – and especially subscriptions – are valuable to the paper’s longterm success and financial stability.
The Index takes great effort to generate the majority of content by its own writers and photographers. No other publication covers the news of Georgia Baptists like The Christian Index and it is hard to justify charging print subscribers for content that is given away free on its website.
We will continue to evaluate this policy and may enlarge it to include other content as deemed appropriate.
The Index management team understands the value of its Sunday School lessons, which is one of the more popular sections of the newspaper. Index management is trusting that online readers will value that content by purchasing an annual print subscription by clicking here for only $12 – which breaks down to just 25 cents for each of the 48 lessons and getting the rest of the content for free.
We appreciate your understanding our need to make this adjustment as we seek to be better stewards of our limited funds while providing added value for our loyal print subscribers.
