Augusta couple appointed by International Mission Board

Winston and Cheryl Collins of Augusta have been appointed by the International Mission Board as community outreach missionaries to Mexico City.

They will be involved in planning and strategy, networking and recruitment, training and mentoring, and evaluation of evangelism projects. Main responsibilities include handing tracts out to homes, establishing Bible studies, and working with mission teams.

Winston Collins is a graduate of Truett McConnell College, where he received his Associate of Arts degree, and Baylor University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in music.

Since 1987 he has served as minister of music/youth/senior adults at Fleming Baptist Church in Augusta. Previously he served at First Baptist Baxley; First Baptist Warner Robbins; Central Baptist in Albany; First Baptist Hawkinsville; First Baptist Ashburn; and First Baptist of Deerfield Beach, Fla. His home church is Concord Baptist in Clermont.

Cheryl Collins earned her Master’s degree in Counseling at Georgia Southern University. In addition, she attained her Masters in English at Valdosta State University. She has served as a teacher at Hephzibah High School in the Richmond County School System for the past 16 years.

Cheryl Collins served as a summer missionary to California in 1967. Her home church is Friendship Baptist in Alma. The Collins have three children: Shannon, 29, a collegiate minister in Thailand; Calvin, 31, of Clarksdale, Miss.; and Meredith, 34, of Augusta.
