Super "Wows" students with missions and evangelism

SuperWow once again “wowed” thousands of Georgia Baptist students, challenging them to embrace the characteristics of God.

“SuperWow will always have the ‘wow’ factor with its state-of-the-art technology and relevant environments for ministry,” said Scott Kindig, GBC youth ministries consultant. “But the strength of SuperWow is always going to be the evangelistic impact, as all our themes are chosen with solid, biblically-based goals of planting sound theology in the hearts of our students.”

The five day event, held four times at both Jekyll Island and Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., includes nationally known Christian speakers, worship leaders, drama teams and even illusionists within a worship environment. The worship is supported by six hours of age-graded discipleship seminars led by college students and adults.

In recent years, a missions component was added to SuperWow. It is an optional track for churches who want to spend at least one afternoon working at a pre-set mission project. About half the groups participate in the afternoon projects which include beach clean-up, beach evangelism, and working with children at a local center.

They left an impression wherever they served.

“They walk in and they show the kids so much love. We’re blessed with SuperWow,” said Todd Gatlin, executive director of the Eleanor Johnson Youth Center in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

SuperWow remains one of the best-attended summer events in Georgia because “the reality of today’s culture has created a vacuum of biblical knowledge that is even evident in some ministry environments,” Kindig said. “SuperWow is one camp that you can count on to undergird everything with solid theology.”
