One notable Southern Baptist preacher was asked, “Who is your favorite preacher?”
With tongue in cheek the preacher responded, “Well, when I am really on, I had just as soon hear me as anybody.”
I am not nearly so confident in my role as an editor. I am still on a learning curve and trying to work my way through the minefields of the publishing industry with the help of our Managing Editor, Joe Westbury, but I love the challenge.
My parents came through the Great Depression and knew what it was to work hard. They had to work hard in order to survive. They taught me the value of hard work and that a person should give an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.
I think most people who know me would say that I have a good work ethic. That natural, inherent work ethic is fueled by two things: first, a sense of urgency due to the perilous times in which we live, and second, a sense of a divine calling that compels me and constrains me to do all I can to advance the cause of the Kingdom of God.
The primary medium through which I can express that passion and sense of urgency is The Christian Index. My deep, heartfelt desire is to see our Georgia Baptist state paper have a profound impact upon its readership by inspiring each subscriber to become a well-informed Christian, an agent of revival, a herald of the good news, and an advocate of righteousness.
At The Christian Index we are blessed to have a wonderfully dedicated, competent and talented staff who share the same vision of producing a paper that will be informative, inspiring and Christ-honoring.
The Christian Index embraces a Biblical worldview meaning that we believe in the exclusivity of the gospel, the absolute accuracy of the Word of God, the sinless nature of Jesus, the literal existence of Satan, the omnipotence and omniscience of God, and the personal responsibility to evangelize.
Not every church and pastor hold to these basic beliefs, but if you do, please help us get The Christian Index into the homes of your fellow church members and friends. We want to partner with the churches of our Convention in helping to inform and spiritually edify Georgia Baptists.
Allan Turner, author and minister, has written, “When people in the church don’t have a Biblical worldview, the church becomes one huge intellectual and spiritual disaster area. It no longer knows how to out-think, out-live, and out-die the unbeliever. Instead of being different, modern church members blend in nicely with the materialistic world. They fret over the same things the secularists do. Such church members are more interested in their own personal kingdom than the Lord’s Kingdom. Their look is not upward or outward, but inward.”
Get The Christian Index! Read The Christian Index! Feed your mind and heart! You see, the person who doesn’t read is no better off than the person who can’t.
This is a good time of the year to lend your support to what we are trying to do in terms of communicating news from a Biblical worldview.
Many churches are in the process of planning the church budget for the new year. Please prayerfully consider including The Christian Index in your next year’s budget.
This month we increased the number of pages in each issue from 20 to 24. The cost for individual annual subscriptions (26 issues) will remain at only $12. A church plan is available for only $8 per subscriber for an entire year.
Call today and give us the opportunity to assist you with an individual subscription or help you get your church on the church plan. Our telephone number is (770) 936-5590 or toll free 1 800 RING-GBC.
We would really like to increase our number of subscribers, but we are more interested in changed lives than anything else.
