MARIETTA – Ernest Easley, pastor of Roswell Street Baptist Church, will nominate Jimmy Jackson for SBC president during the June 15-16 annual convention in Orlando.

“Knowing that our convention is headed into unchartered waters, we need a statesman to help guide our Southern Baptist ship. With Jimmy Jackson at the helm, he will draw from his deep well of experience in bringing our Southern Baptist family together, as we move forward in fulfilling the Great Commission,” he told The Index.

Jackson is pastor of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala., and is serving as president of the Alabama Baptist Convention. He is one of four candidates for the top non-salaried leadership position in the denomination.

Other candidates include Georgia’s Bryant Wright, pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta; Leo Endel, executive director of the Wisconsin-Minnesota Baptist Convention and Ted Traylor, pastor of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Fla.

The election of president will be held at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon prior the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force report – June 15 at the Orlando Convention Center.
