Gratitude for young leaders in GBC

A lot has been written lately about our young SBC pastors and leaders leaving the convention. One reason that has been cited is that we are not invited to participate in the leadership of the convention and feel no ownership. With that in mind, I want to commend Dr. White and the Georgia Baptist Convention for calling young leaders and placing them in positions of leadership.

A wonderful example is David Mills, a consultant with the Executive Office for Evangelism. David led a revival for our church this past week and did an outstanding job. He is a wonderful preacher, but I was most impressed with his heart for Christ and for the people of God.

David has a passion for evangelism that is contagious, and he encourages believers to do evangelism in a very practical way. Some in our church were not impressed when I told them that our revival preacher worked for the GBC. Their experience has been that these are not the best preachers. After the Sunday morning service, however, there was an excitement about what God was going to do the rest of the week.

David gave a very good name to the GBC through the way he ministered to our church. He is a leader, and there are many more like him at work throughout the GBC.

Our convention is strong, and with leadership like this it will continue to strengthen. I see a wonderful future on the horizon for the kingdom of God in Georgia because of the leadership we have in place right now.
