Supports removal of Ten Commandments

With more than casual interest, I read the Index piece concerning the Ten Commandments battle in Barrow County. It did not escape my attention that the leadership supporting posting the commandments in public buildings are Baptists - ministers and laypersons. Shame on them!

Along with the ACLU, I successfully forced removal of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse and other public buildings in Habersham County last year. I did this because I AM a Baptist and a pastor who knows something about our history. Historically, Baptists have resisted mixing church and state and have strongly defended religious liberty. Ever heard of Roger Williams?

To my way of thinking, any Baptist who supports removal of "the wall" that separates church and state does so either from ignorance or arrogance. I honestly believe this as a life long Baptist.

I am not an atheist, nor am I an unbeliever. I stand with historic Baptists who choose freedom of choice over religious indoctrination and ignorance.

Baptists should "render unto Caesar those things which are Caesar's and unto God those things which are God's" and have intelligence to know which is which.

God help us if we fail the test.
