Supports Ten Commandments displayBy Rita Boyett, Zoar Baptist Church, BaxleyPublished October 7, 2004
In all of my years of reading the Index and other Baptist papers, I have never seen anything like the letter from Bo Turner, "Supports removal of Ten Commandments." What shocks me even more is the fact that we have a Baptist church in our state that would call and keep a pastor with Turner's liberal anti-Christian views. To align himself with the ACLU, our nation's greatest enemy to Christianity, is beyond belief. Dear God, help us if the Baptist movement in our country has come to this. We are not so ignorant that we have not heard of the great pioneer of faith, Roger Williams. His views are nothing like Turner's. America was built on our Christian faith. Like the nation of Israel, when we as a nation turn from God, our enemies will prevail against us. Readers of history know that in writing the Declaration of Independence, a state document if there ever was one, those great patriots saw it necessary to add God's name and acknowledge his sovereignty; the first money ever coined stated "In God We Trust"; our pledge to the flag states, "one nation under God"; all the early presidents of our country prayed, invoking God's blessings upon us as a nation. Signs and symbols of Christianity, including the Ten Commandments have been commonly seen in public state buildings since the birth of America. There is no way to separate God from the nation. We are either a "nation under God" or we are a heathen nation. |
