Name change reflects mission of ministry

Bible Study Ministries of the Georgia Baptist Convention officially changed its name Feb. 9 to Sunday School/Open Group Ministries.

The purpose of the name change, explained specialist Steve Parr, is to better represent those churches that have Sunday School ministries, but don’t use the term “Sunday School.”

“Many churches today use terms such as ‘cell groups’ or ‘small groups,’” explained Parr, “but it’s still their Sunday School time. At the same time, many unchurched people still like the term ‘Sunday School’ because it’s so familiar.”
