Wayne Hamrick will be nominated as president of the Georgia Baptist Convention when it meets in annual session in November in Columbus.
Frank Cox, senior pastor of North Metro First Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, said he will nominate Hamrick at the meeting.
"Wayne is known throughout our state as a church builder and he has led each of the 12 churches he has pastored to have a passion for evangelism, missions, and growth. His last church, Atco Baptist Church in Cartersville, contributed 11 percent to the Cooperative Program and was recognized by our convention for being in the top 37 churches for consistent growth in average attendance and baptisms for 1997-2002."
Cox also cited Hamrick's leadership for his service in a variety of roles on the association, state convention, and national SBC level. He currently serves as chairman of the trustees for LifeWay Christian Resources and, in December, was elected chairman of the GBC Executive Committee.
In 2004 Hamrick resigned his church to enter fulltime evangelism and to assist pastors in church growth.
In announcing his intention to nominate Hamrick, Cox noted that Hebron Baptist Church Pastor Larry Wynn of Dacula has described Hamrick as being "a pastor's pastor who has a heart for the church." And, LifeWay President Jimmy Draper says Hamrick "has the passion of an evangelist and at the same time, is a master strategist," Cox added.
