Busting down the doors for YEC 2004Students experience connections at Youth Evangelism ConferenceBy Sherri Brown, GBC, CommunicationsPublished January 20, 2005
Television stars, football players and award-winning bands headlined the annual Youth Evangelism Conference at the Macon Coliseum the week after Christmas. To the delight of fans who have only seen them on reruns, Kirk Cameron, an actor who played Mike Seaver on the television series, Growing Pains, and his sister, Candace Cameron Bure, who played D.J. Tanner on Full House, both spoke to the sold-out crowd. Students also heard Third Day, Casting Crowns and Big Daddy Weave in concert. The Youth Evangelism Conference is an annual event sponsored by Georgia Baptist Youth Ministries. The three day event includes two back-to-back sessions featuring the same speakers and musicians, with a joint event in between. This year separate girls and boys events were held between the sessions. While YEC is funded through registration fees, gifts to the Cooperative Program allow the GBC youth ministries staff to provide year-round events and training for youth and youth workers. You and your church may send Cooperative Program gifts to: Dr. J. Robert White, Executive Director, GBC 2930 Flowers Road South, Atlanta, GA 30341-5562
