Prayer and Saving our Country

I am concerned about prayer movements to save our country that do not emphasis repentance. And I am suspect of any repentance that does not acknowledge the sin of Christians being disengaged in the political process (registering to vote, voting, running for office, petitioning the Government with grievances, teaching on moral and social issues).

The church in general, and the pulpits in America specifically, have been derelict in their duties regarding Christian Citizenship for too long. We are in the mess we’re in, in this country, not because we are “rocking the boat” too much, but because we are asleep in the “Devil’s crib” and lullabied by the ways of worldly Christianity far too long!

Too many Christians are not taking their citizenship seriously! We are losing our country by simple default. In many cases we are doing so because we think ourselves “too spiritual” to get involved. Further, we are seeing many asking God to do what He has already commanded us to do. God will not vote, run for office, and introduce legislation and judge cases. He has called us to do that. Our prayers should be in relationship to asking God what He would have us do in order to save this nation for His Glory!

The first three words of our constitution are “We the people.” The first three words of God’s constitution are “If my people.” If God’s people will be the people we are called to be and get involved in the political process, we can make a difference for the Kingdom of God and in the Government of our day.

This is not rocket science! We must get the salt out of the shaker and we must take the bushel off of the lamp. Just as it is true in evangelism, that we must become more intentional in our approach, so it is true in the political process of our country. If we don’t intentionally plan to get more involved, we will not do it!

The church in general, and the pulpits in America specifically, have been derelict in their duties regarding Christian Citizenship for too long.

I promise you that with our country designed the way it is, God will not let us get away without being held responsible! The greatest obligation to do right in this country is that of God’s people. Again God says in his word, “If MY people.” Christians have a moral responsibility before God to set the example of good citizenship.

I am reminded of what Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

God is holding us accountable, because we are a part of the problem of what is wrong with this nation. The question is: What are you going to do about? God, your country, and your children are waiting!

Pray? Yes, we should! But we must pray, repentance of our apathy and compliancy.
