Anthony Yates named head track and field coach at Shorter

ROME, Ga.— Anthony Yates was announced by Marty Ziesemer on Monday, Aug. 10, as the head coach of the Shorter Track and Field Program. 

Ziesemer remarked, " I am pleased to have Anthony join our track and field program as the Head Coach and begin the process of building a competitive program while investing in the lives of our student-athletes.  He has a sincere desire to serve the Lord and Shorter in the role and is passionate about coaching and training our student-athletes in their development as college students.  I look forward to seeing the positive impact he will make in our program, with our student-athletes, and the entire Shorter University community". 

Yates comes to Rome after spending the last four seasons at Mid-America Nazarene University, where he coached a total of 18 national qualifiers, four All-Americans, ten conference champions, and 32 all-conference honorees, while also having multiple athletes break school records. Before MNU, Yates spent 3 years coaching at the NCAA DII level at Upper Iowa University, where he led the sprints, hurdles, relays, and multis groups. He coached 18 women to All-NSIC Conference honors, coached athletes to 41 different school records, as well as coaching 2 NCAA DII National Qualifiers in the 400m hurdles and the heptathlon. 
 
Before coaching at Upper Iowa, Anthony spent 1 season coaching at his alma mater, Greenville University, where he specialized in the multi-events and the hurdle events. He coached 1 runner-up All-American, 6 NCAA National Qualifiers, 3 NCAA All-Americans, 1 SLIAC Conference Champion, and 6 ALL SLIAC Conference honorees.
 
As a student-athlete at Greenville University, Anthony specialized as an athlete in the 400m hurdles, multi-events, and the pole vault. He was a 6-time National Qualifier and a 3-time All-American in the 400m hurdles, 4x4 relay, and the pole vault.

Yates earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Greenville and received his Master of Sports Administration degree at Upper Iowa.

"I am extremely excited to be the new Head Track and Field coach here at Shorter University", said Yates. "Shorter has had a long, great history of track and field throughout the years, and I am excited to bring that excellence back to campus. I want to thank Mr. Marty Ziesemer and the rest of the hiring committee for their time and for the opportunity to lead the track and field program.
