MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — On Wednesday, Aug. 13, Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new nursing facility.

This new facility, scheduled for construction during the 2025–2026 academic year and opening to students in Fall 2026, will play a vital role in preparing the next generation of nurses. It will feature state-of-the-art simulation labs, ample classrooms and training space, faculty offices, and collaborative learning areas.

Ginger Morris, chair of Montgomery County Commissioners and a BPCU trustee, made several remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony. “This new nursing facility represents opportunity not only for our students, but for the entire region. In a time when rural areas face a critical shortage in healthcare, this project is a step toward meeting that need. It has been covered in prayer, carefully planned, and guided by a shared commitment to do what is best for our community. I’m excited for the students who will train here, gaining both professional skills and a strong Christian worldview that will serve them for a lifetime.”

The groundbreaking ceremony drew a supportive gathering of faculty, trustees, local leaders, and community partners, many of whom expressed enthusiasm for the building’s potential to transform healthcare education in the region.

“This groundbreaking is about preparing the next generation of nurses to be both highly skilled healthcare professionals and faithful ambassadors for Christ. Thanks to the generosity of federal and foundation grants and individual contributors, this facility will soon become a place where students are equipped to serve with compassion, excellence, and a biblical worldview,” shared BPCU President Dr. Steven Echols.

This new facility is a testament to God’s provision and the shared vision of its supporters. As the nursing program continues to grow, BPCU remains faithful to its mission of fostering academic and spiritual transformation in the lives of its students.
