MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Brewton-Parker College proudly dedicated the historic campus arch on May 3, 2025, in honor of Don and Beverly Thigpen, beloved alumni whose enduring love story and lifelong dedication have left a profound impact on the college and the surrounding community.

Held at the foot of the arch, the dedication ceremony celebrated faith, service, and the couple’s unwavering commitment to each other. This cherished landmark holds special significance for the Thigpens, whose journey together began at BPC. Married for 62 years, their story reflects the very heart of what the arch has symbolized for nearly a century.

“This dedication will allow for other stories like Mr. Don and Mrs. Beverly’s to unfold—stories of students who meet, graduate, become successful contributors to their communities, and good stewards of what God has given them,” said Dr. Justin Russell, Provost of Brewton-Parker College. “What a beautiful continuation of the legacy that began when two young people crossed paths here at Brewton-Parker.”

Standing since 1934, the BPC arch is rumored to have been built from the bricks of a fallen campus building. Although the origin is debated, the arch remains an example of how God can transform what was lost into something enduring. This dedication is particularly fitting, as it represents a relationship that has similarly withstood the test of time. Through the generosity of the Thigpen family, the legacy of Mr. Don and Mrs. Beverly Thigpen will continue to inspire future generations.

The plaque placed beside the arch reads:

Brewton-Parker Christian University proudly dedicates this arch to Don & Beverly Thigpen, A devoted couple whose journey began at the arch and were married for over 62 years, leaving a profound and lasting impact on the campus and community. Through their enduring support and dedication, they have played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s growth, fostering a brighter future for generations. May their steadfast commitment to education continue to inspire excellence for years to come.
