Brewton-Parker sees spiritual movement among students

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Great things are happening at Brewton-Parker Christian University. The university is experiencing a historic season of growth and blessings. Most importantly, there has been an outpouring of the Holy Spirit seen among the students.

This fall semester alone, 35 students have received Christ as their Savior, and at each weekly chapel service, scores of students come forward during the invitation for prayer and commitment. Many other students are seeking counsel outside of the chapel services, and numerous small groups are discipling students.

BPCU President Dr. Steven Echols noted that over the last decade, more than 500 students have professed Christ as Savior, and many more have made recommitments to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. However, he expressed that “this fall has been unique in that the Holy Spirit is evident in a more powerful way and students are responding more than ever before. I really believe God is bringing revival to this generation in a way that can touch the world.”

BPCU also has seen a surge in student growth. Since 2015, total enrollment has more than doubled, and the university anticipates exceeding 1,700 students by the end of the academic year.

The university continues to expand academic opportunities through the nursing program and Temple Baptist Theological Seminary (TBTS). The nursing facility, currently under construction, will serve as a state-of-the-art training ground for compassionate, Christ-honoring healthcare professionals. Meanwhile, since its inception in March of 2023, TBTS has now enrolled students from over 20 countries, with more than 300 students having taken courses in certificate, bachelor’s, and master’s programs. Additionally, BPCU has launched a new Master of Education in Teaching and Learning program to equip educators to serve with excellence and faith in classrooms across the nation and beyond.

In a historic move, Brewton-Parker Christian University officially became a university on July 1, 2025. “Our transition to university status represents more than just a name change and growing programs,” said Dr. Echols. “It symbolizes a vision for even greater things that we believe God has in store for our future.” As Brewton-Parker Christian University looks to the future, its mission remains to foster academic and spiritual transformation across the campus and in the lives of its students.
