As a local church pastor or church leader, one of the things that I rarely thought about was a disaster happening, until it happens. More than likely, even less thought is given to a disaster happening in our community, unless it has happened before.
If a disaster struck in your community today, is your church family ready to respond? What would be the first thing to do? Who would you call? Where would you go?
You might do the "Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How" thing. Who was affected? What was the damage? Where can we get help? When can we react? Why did this happen? How can we be the hands and feet of Jesus?
The Georgia Baptist Mission Board, through our Disaster Relief Ministry, has developed a strategy/plan to help your church be ready when any type of crisis event happens in your community.
It is called "Becoming A Disaster Ready Church." It is a guide to help churchs plan to be ready for the unforeseen. This is a tool that will walk a team from within your congregation through several aspects of spiritual and physical preparedness in the event of a disaster in your community.
The guide looks at things such as the planning process for different types of crisis/emergency events that arise, helping to develop an emergency action plan, pursuing community partners, establishing communication and coordination, assessing your campus facilities, organizing volunteers, and becoming a possible host church site for a Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief response/deployment.
We are here to help you reach your community for Christ before, during, and after the unexpected.
