Commentary: Satan's devices

Satan has many devices and tricks up his sleeves. Paul called them the “wiles of the devil.” Probably the cleverest of all is to persuade men that the devil does not even exist, and that there is no God, no heaven, and no hell. If men don’t believe in God or fear any consequences, they have no motive to abstain from the evil acts Satan wants them to commit.

Another device of the devil that has captured a great many so-called intellectuals is the theory of evolution. Actually, it is not called theory any longer but fact. And it is far from deserving the designation of fact. It is really a poor theory, and many prominent scientists today have rejected evolution as totally inadequate at explaining the origin and progression of life.

J. Vernon McGee said, “The teaching of evolution as a fact of science is the greatest delusion of the twentieth century.” Unfortunately, evolution has become the basis of modern biology. You will not find a modern biology textbook that does not present evolution as fact; when, in fact, evolution is not fact, but fiction. It is a creation of Satan. It is a theory, and a very poor one at that.

Evolution is man’s attempt to explain life by excluding and denying God. Man has today tossed out the very possibility of God’s existence. But the truth is out there. God exists. Without faith in God, life is totally meaningless. Real truth is found only in God’s Word, the Holy Bible. And the Word of God is true whether anyone believes it or not. Jesus and the prophets said that there would be a great falling away near the end of time. We are seeing just that today wholesale.

Dr. Edwin Conklin, biologist, once said, “The probability of life originating from accident is comparable to the probability of the unabridged dictionary resulting from an explosion in a printing shop.” Belief in evolution instead of God leads to pessimism, fatalism, and hopelessness. Proverbs 3:5 advises us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding.” Just because a person does not see God does not mean He is not real. We cannot see the wind, but we know it exists. Christians know God exists because of answered prayers and miracles they have experienced. A song says, “You ask me how I know He lives. He lives within my heart.”

Of course, many people will never be persuaded. They will continue to explain away miracles as coincidences. That is so very unfortunate for them. One day, as they bow their knee before the Lord of Glory, they will realize the truth too late. They will then have to suffer the consequences of all their rebellion against their Creator while on earth. They will be removed from God forever and eternally suffer in payment. The Bible says that every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him.
