ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Recent research from Barna has highlighted a post-pandemic shift: men now report higher church attendance than women, reversing long-standing trends. This growing spiritual engagement among men is prompting the Georgia Baptist Mission Board to partner with local churches to strengthen men's discipleship and outreach efforts across the state.

One such partnership is with Real Momentum and Fusion Church in Madison, which on February 1 will host the Georgia Men's Summit at the Morgan County Recreation Community Center. The summit, designed to challenge men toward biblical manhood and equip churches with practical next steps, is part of a broader GBMB effort to help churches engage men with the gospel and connect them to local church life.

Scott Sullivan, the GBMB's discipleship catalyst, said, "We are seeing a spiritual hunger among men in Georgia that we’ve not seen in decades. We are not just trying to reach men, but create pipelines in our churches where men can be saved, grow towards spiritual maturity, and discipled to multiply their faith through their work, friendships, and family."

The Georgia Men's Summit will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. and feature a message from Thomas Settles III, senior pastor of Calvary Bible Church, Fellowship of Christian Athletes campus director at the University of Georgia, and UGA football chaplain. The evening will include a barbecue dinner, worship, and teaching. Organizers will also offer several giveaways, including a couple’s getaway and outdoor cooking equipment.

Matt Alexander, pastor of Fusion Church, said the summit is designed to be more than a one-night experience. “The Georgia Men’s Summit is a catalytic moment where men will be called to examine their hearts, realign their priorities, and step back into God’s design for biblical manhood,” Alexander said. “We believe this summit will mark a turning point for men who are ready to lead their homes, churches, and communities with conviction and humility.”

Alexander said Settles “has a rare ability to connect with men where they are—whether in the locker room, the church, or everyday life. As both a pastor and chaplain to the UGA football team, he speaks with authenticity, spiritual authority, and practical wisdom that resonates deeply with men from all walks of life.”

Churches attending the summit will be introduced to Shepherding Men: Winning with God!, a new six-week discipleship resource from Real Momentum designed for small groups, accountability settings, and church-based men’s ministries.

“Our prayer is that the Georgia Men’s Summit will not end when the final session closes, but will ignite ongoing discipleship in local churches and communities,” Alexander said. “This event is designed to help men take their next step—toward biblical manhood, faithful leadership, and deeper engagement in the life and mission of their church.”

The summit reflects GBMB’s broader commitment to equipping churches to reach their communities with the gospel. By partnering with local churches and ministries, GBMB aims to strengthen local efforts and help churches build intentional pathways for men to grow as disciples and leaders.

"If you want to engage men or if you're a man looking for help to become who God has called you to be, this Georgia Men's Summit is for you," Alexander said.

And, said Sullivan, the summit is just the beginning. "We plan to see thousands of men take their next step in discipleship through regional men's events in 2026. "
