Mallette named to lead Nevada Baptists

LAS VEGAS (BP) – The Executive Board of the Nevada Baptist Convention (NBC) announced its approval of Adam Mallette, lead teaching pastor of King’s Church in Las Vegas, to serve as the next NBC executive director/treasurer following a unanimous vote on Aug. 11 at a special called business meeting.

Beginning in March, a search team chaired by NBC President Jim Disbro, pastor of First Baptist Battle Mountain, considered several resumes after the previous month’s resignation of former Executive Director Damian Cirincione. Mallette, NBC vice president at the time, recused himself from that role after being approached and agreeing to place his name for consideration.

An initial letter was sent to Mallette on Aug. 13 expressing the Board’s interest, with an official letter coming five days later. Mallette informed King’s Church after morning worship services on Aug. 16 of his next role.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the pastors and churches of Nevada,” Mallette told Baptist Press. “Like so many, I have been blessed by Southern Baptist cooperation and biblical fidelity. My desire is to pass along that blessing while celebrating the work God is doing in and through our churches.”

Mallette’s last day at King’s Church, where he has served for almost six years, will take place on Oct. 11. He will assume his new duties the next day.

“We feel that Dr. Mallette is God’s man for this season of our convention,” said Disbro, “and we are excited to see what the Lord has for us through Adam’s leadership.”

Before considering candidates, the executive board revised the job description and adopted a candidate profile to also fit the roles of chief executive, financial and development officer. Search team sub-committees interviewed applicants, hearing their testimonies of salvation, calls to ministry and responses over questions related to character and qualifications. The application window for candidates ran from March through the end of April.

Mallette, who served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan, Iraq and Afghanistan, is joined by his wife, Heather, and their four children: Augustus, Lucius, Maximus and Alessia. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in accounting before earning a Master of Arts in international relations from the University of Oklahoma. Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees followed at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Prior to his pastorship in Nevada, Mallette also led churches in Texas and Missouri and served as director of Student Services at Southwestern.
