ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Georgia Baptist pastors and church leaders now have access to a new retreat area at the Mission Board’s Old Milton Parkway facility. The area has been created to provide a place for personal renewal and team-building.
Thomas Hammond, GBMB executive director, recalled that when the board purchased the property, once the headquarters of a company called the Scheduling Institute, the former CEO suite struck him as the perfect place for pastors and ministry leaders to meet for strategic planning and collaboration.
The newly renovated retreat was made possible through the generosity of the Georgia Baptist Health Care Foundation. Hammond said he shared the vision with Executive Director Larry Wynn, who immediately embraced the idea and agreed for the foundation to fund the entire renovation. “Larry loved the idea,” Hammond said.
That support ensured the project could be completed without expense to the Mission Board, allowing Cooperative Program gifts to remain focused on missions and ministry. “The foundation stepped in to invest directly in the health and renewal of pastors,” Hammond said, noting that the retreat fits perfectly with GBHCF’s long-standing commitment to caring for ministers and their families.
The retreat includes a room for roundtable discussions and another designed as a private study for sermon preparation or personal prayer. Hammond explained, “If you want to come and do a three- or four- or five-day retreat working on a sermon series, or you want to get away for a time in the Word and prayer for personal renewal — this is what this area is designed for.”
The space is available at no charge. Pastors can email pastorsretreat@gabaptist.org to request additional information.
Hammond encouraged leaders to bring their teams to connect with mission board staff as well. “Whatever we can do to support you in ministry, we are eager to help,” he said.
