Eleanor Hartley Chesser, 91, of Buford, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026, peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.
Eleanor was born January 29, 1935, in Buford, Georgia, to Roscoe and Ruby Grace Hartley. She was born and raised in Buford, where she met the love of her life, Ronald Chesser, while they were in high school. After they married, Eleanor and Ronald moved to the Atlanta area, where they raised their two daughters. Following their retirement, they returned to Buford, the community Eleanor had always called home. They shared a loving marriage of nearly 50 years, and Eleanor often lovingly referred to Ronald as her “knight in shining armor.”
Eleanor was known throughout her life for her exceptionally sweet disposition and her genuine love for everyone she met. Her kindness and gentle spirit touched countless lives, and those who knew her will always remember how easily she made others feel loved and cared for.
Eleanor worked for many years as an administrative assistant with the Georgia Baptist Convention. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she dearly loved her church, Buford First Baptist Church. She also enjoyed singing for many years with the Silvertones senior adult choir.
Eleanor found great joy in doing things for others. She was a wonderful cook and especially loved baking Christmas cookies for her family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and lovingly made scarves to give as Christmas and birthday gifts. These thoughtful gifts were just another way she expressed her love.
Family was at the center of Eleanor’s life. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Chesser Turner (Doug); son-in-law, Dee Wiggins; grandchildren, Deanna Turner and Derek Wiggins; great-granddaughter, Phoenixx Wiggins; sister, Linda Rolin (Stanley); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Chesser; daughter, Sherrie Chesser Wiggins; sister, Joan Hartley Dyar; and parents, Roscoe and Ruby Grace Hartley.
Eleanor leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, faith, and generosity. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her sweet spirit, her loving heart, and the many ways she made others feel special.
A memorial service celebrating Eleanor’s life will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 2 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Wayne Johnson will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 1 PM – 2 PM at the funeral home.
