Rev. James Harold Reynolds, Jr., 73, of Rome, Ga, passed away on Friday after a sudden illness of pancreatic cancer.

Jim was born on September 24, 1950, to Rev. James Harold Reynolds and Charlotte Swindle Reynolds in Lindale. Ga. Jim graduated from Pepperell High School in 1968.

After multiple summers working in the Lindale Mill, Jim started his first job at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home in Lindale, working for Mr. Joe Paul Henderson from 1966-1969. He later was employed at Floyd Medical Center (1968-1972) as an EMT, and Bekaert Steel Wire Corporation (1969-1983) as a Senior Die Maker and Maintenance Training Director.

In 1968, Jim met Deborah Dunaway at Floyd Medical Center, where he was an EMT and she was a nurse in the ER. Jim and Deborah married on January 18, 1969. They went on to have two daughters, Jennifer and Amanda (Mandy).

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Charlotte Reynolds, great aunt, Sallie Swindle, grandparents, and many other loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Deborah Dunaway Reynolds, daughters, Jennifer Reynolds and Amanda (Mandy) Reynolds Davidson, son-in-law, James Davidson, siblings: Michael Reynolds (Teresa), Rick Reynolds (Deena), Laura Reynolds Brewer (Tim), brother-in-law, Jimmy Dunaway (Cindy), Grandson by marriage, Joshua Davidson, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jim received a Masters Degree in Christian Ministries from Florida Atlantic University. His 50 years in Christian ministry led him to many stops along the way. He served as bivocational pastor at Benedict Baptist Church in Cedartown, GA, from 1980-1983. He accepted the call to full-time ministry and served as senior pastor of several churches in Northwest Georgia: Woodlawn Baptist Church in Trenton (1983-1992), Fellowship Baptist Church in Chickamauga (1992-1997), Spring Creek Baptist Church in Rome (1997-2006), New Antioch Baptist Church in Shannon (2021-2024), where he is a member, and served as Interim pastor and most recently Bivocational Pastor. In 2006 Jim began serving as the Director of Missions for the Floyd County Baptist Association in Rome, where he served for 15 years, and retired in January 2021.

Jim enjoyed woodworking, playing a round of golf whenever the opportunity presented itself, cooking, grilling and smoking BBQ, but more than anything, he loved spending time with his family. He was a faithful husband, dedicated father, and a loyal friend.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Spring Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Whelchel, Rev. Corey Wright, and Dr. Charles Drummond officiating.  Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park, South, located at 2446 Cedartown Hwy in Rome.
